GADSDEN
— Gadsden State Community College
was one of 26 Alabama
colleges recently selected as “G.I.
Jobs” magazine’s Military Friendly Schools for 2011.
This list features 1,100 schools from around the country that are
“military friendly.”
“This list is especially important now because the recently-enacted
post-9/11 GI Bill has given veterans virtually unlimited financial means to
go to school,” said Rich McCormack, “G.I.
Jobs” publisher. “Veterans can now enroll in any school, provided
they’re academically qualified. So schools are clamoring for them like never
before. Veterans need a trusted friend to help them decide where to get
educated. The Military Friendly Schools list is that trusted friend.”
Gadsden
State
was selected based on their VA approval, credit for CLEP (College Level
Examination Program) and DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) exams,
flexible schedules, ROTC program, and a full-time counselor on campus for
veterans. Only 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools were
selected on the Military Friendly Schools 2011 list.
“Being recognized as a Military Friendly School
is a reflection of the strong commitment made by Gadsden State
to provide services to veterans,” said Jimmy Johnson, director of Veterans
Upward Bound. “As one of only two programs in
Alabama, we are uniquely aware of how important
these services are to those we serve. We honor their service and help
prepare them for the opportunities ahead.”
