Garden drops out of top 10 in Class 1A; Piedmont
still No. 1 in 3A

Piedmont
(7-0) will carry the 3A, No. 1 ranking into
homecoming Friday night against Saks. The Bulldogs collected all
except three first-place votes. Those three votes went to
second-ranked T.R. Miller. Saks (6-1) will be facing a Piedmont
defense that yields only 6.9 points per game.
Spring Garden (6-1) fell from the Class 1A top 10 after a
last-minute loss to Region 7 rival
Collinsville
(6-1). For Collinsville,
the dramatic 45-41 come-from-behind victory secured the No. 9 spot in this
week’s poll. Both teams still have key Region 7 games on the road. The
Garden travels to Donoho (4-3), while
Collinsville
faces a dangerous Gaylesville (3-4) squad that has won three in a row.
Defending state champion and current No. 1-ranked
Marion
County (7-0) grabs this week’s prep
spotlight when they journey to
Pickens
County to battle the No.
5-ranked Tornadoes (7-0).
Fyffe (7-0) is the new No. 2 in Class 2A. The Red Devils will have their
hands full Friday when they travel to
North
Sand Mountain.
The Bison (6-1), behind all-state quarterback Tyler Vann, will be looking to
derail the Red Devil express.
Fort Payne (7-0) held onto the No. 4 spot in Class 5A after
crushing Columbia,
57-0. The Wildcats will be on the road to play the Brewer Patriots.
Tanner (7-0) remained atop the Class 2A poll. Oneonta was unchallenged in
Class 4A. Muscle Shoals holds
onto No.1 in Class 5A. Hoover claimed all 32
first-place votes in Class 6A.
In other area games this week Grissom (2-5) is at
Gadsden
City (4-3),
Cherokee
County (0-7) hosts Munford (4-3), Anniston (4-3) comes to Hokes Bluff (1-6), Sand Rock (3-4)
is at West End (0-7), and Gaston (0-7)
journeys to Ider (4-3). Cedar Bluff has an open week.
